Pianist and conductor Boris Cepeda was born on September 26, 1974 in Quito, Ecuador. Since 2016 he has been Head of Music Staff and deputy choir director at the Theater Münster, where he has also been conducting productions in the music theater and has taken the musical direction of productions by the Junge Theater. Between 2009 and 2016 he was a vocal coach and deputy Head of Music Staff at the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau. Cepeda received his first piano lessons at the age of four. Shortly thereafter, he appeared on Ecuadorian television as a young and exceptional talent. Since then, he has been active as a pianist in Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America. In 2000 he graduated with top marks from Professor Kurt Seibert at the University of the Arts in Bremen. He received further artistic inspiration from Roberto Bravo, Monique Deschausees, Boris Berman, Hans Leygraf, Hans Pålsson, Christian Zacharias and Chris Elton. He received conducting lessons from Wolfgang Kluge and Prof. Joachim Harder. As a Lied accompanist, he performed works by Franz Schubert, Max Reger, Moritz Eggert and Aribert Reimann with great response from audiences and critics. In 1998 Boris Cepeda and his wife Katja founded the “Max Reger Piano Duo”, which performed Reger’s most important works for this instrumentation. In addition to his diverse concert activities, Boris Cepeda has worked as a piano teacher in schools, music schools and conservatories in Europe, Asia and South America since 1991. Since 2019, he has been a lecturer in score and piano reduction at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. Cepeda participated in 1999 as assistant to the artistic direction at the “Weidener Max Reger Tage”. In the same year he founded and managed the Festival for Ibero-American Music in Bremen. Between June 2002 and August 2007 Boris Cepeda was cultural attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Ecuador in Berlin. In 2009 he founded the international music festival “Mendelssohnfest”. Boris Cepedas received i.a. the German Schubert Society Award 2009 and the Vicente Rocafuerte Order for Cultural and Artistic Merit from the Ecuadorian Parliament in 2004. Scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association and the Waldemar Koch Foundation Bremen.
